History
Badagaon Thikana, situated in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, is a historically significant estate belonging to the Ladkhani branch of the Shekhawat Rajput clan. The Ladkhanis trace their lineage to Rao Lad Khan, a prominent warrior and descendant of Rao Shekha, the eponymous founder of the Shekhawat clan. Established as a principal seat of the Ladkhani sub-clan within the historic Shekhawati region, Badagaon operated as a prominent jagir under the suzerainty of the Jaipur State. The rulers of Badagaon played an active role in regional military campaigns, defending their territories against external incursions during the Mughal and Maratha eras, while contributing significantly to the geopolitical landscape of Rajasthan. The Thikana is also celebrated for its rich architectural legacy, featuring traditional stepwells, cenotaphs, and majestic havelis adorned with vibrant frescoes typical of the region's artistic heritage. Following India's independence, the jagirdari system was abolished under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952, integrating the historical estate into the modern state of Rajasthan.
