History
Thal is an historic Thikana (feudal estate) of the Jodha Rathore clan, tracing its origins directly to the lineage of Rao Jodha, the legendary 15th-century ruler of Marwar and founder of Jodhpur. Established as an aristocratic fiefdom under the princely state of Jodhpur, Thal was granted to the descendants of Rao Jodha (Jodha Rathores) in recognition of their military valor, loyalty, and administrative capabilities. Throughout the medieval era, the rulers of Thal actively participated in the defense of Marwar, contributing their cavalry to the state forces during major campaigns. The estate successfully navigated political shifts during the Mughal and British periods, preserving its cultural heritage and local governance until the abolition of the jagirdari system and its subsequent integration into the modern state of Rajasthan post-Independence.
