History
Origin and Foundation of Tejrasar Thikana
Tejrasar was a notable Thikana (feudal estate) located in the erstwhile princely state of Bikaner State in Rajasthan, India. The estate was held by the noble Rajput warriors of the Rathore dynasty, who traced their ancestry to the ruling family of Bikaner, which was founded by Rao Bika in 1465 AD.
The Thikana of Tejrasar was granted as a jagir (land grant) by the Maharaja of Bikaner to a prominent noble of the Rathore clan in recognition of military valour and loyal service to the state. Under the feudal hierarchy of Bikaner, the Thakurs (lords) of Tejrasar held significant local authority, administrative power, and the right to collect revenue within their jurisdiction while providing military assistance to the state capital when summoned.
Historical Relations and the Feudal Structure
During the medieval and early modern periods, the nobles of Tejrasar actively participated in the defense and expansion of the Bikaner State. Like other major thikanas of the region, Tejrasar operated under the Patta system of land tenure. The rulers of the estate were obligated to supply a designated number of cavalrymen (sawars) and infantry to the Maharaja's army during times of war.
During the British Raj, Bikaner State entered into a treaty of subsidiary alliance with the East India Company in 1818. This consolidated the position of the Maharaja and regularized the status of the subordinate thikanas. Tejrasar continued to enjoy local autonomy over its internal affairs, maintaining its administrative and judicial authority under the overall suzerainty of the British Empire and the Bikaner State.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
With the independence of India in 1947 and the subsequent integration of princely states, the Bikaner State acceded to the Indian Union. Following the enactment of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952, the feudal privileges and jagirdari rights of the Thikana were formally abolished. The land was redistributed to the tillers, and the administrative powers of the Thikana were integrated into the modern democratic panchayat system of Rajasthan.
Today, the descendants of the Tejrasar Thikana reside as private citizens, engaged in various professions including agriculture, business, and public service, while carefully preserving their rich historical lineage and cultural heritage.
