History

Origin and Foundation of Kanai Kalan

Kanai Kalan is a historic Thikana (feudal estate) belonging to the Jodha Rathore clan, located in the Marwar region of Rajasthan. The estate was traditionally granted to the descendants of Rao Jodha, the legendary 15th-century sovereign who founded the Kingdom of Marwar and established the city of Jodhpur in 1459. As nobles of the Jodhpur State, the rulers of Kanai Kalan held a prestigious position within the traditional jagirdari system, providing military assistance and administrative counsel to the ruling Maharaja of Jodhpur during crucial geopolitical transitions, including the Mughal and British periods.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence and the subsequent integration of Rajputana into the United State of Rajasthan, the feudal landholding system was formally dissolved under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act of 1952. Today, the descendants of the Kanai Kalan Thikana focus on preserving their ancestral heritage, historical artifacts, and regional customs, maintaining a respected status within the cultural landscape of modern Rajasthan.
