History

Founded in 1420 by Rao Rai Singh, a son of Rana Har Rai who migrated from Ajmer, the Raipur Rani Zamindari represents a prominent branch of the imperial Chauhan Rajputs who settled in the Shivalik foothills of present-day Haryana. Following the collapse of the Chauhan kingdom in Ajmer, these Rajput rulers established their stronghold in Raipur, which grew into an influential estate (jagir) within the historic Ambala region. Throughout the Mughal and British periods, the rulers of Raipur Rani maintained considerable autonomy and administrative authority over their ancestral lands, constructing the formidable Raipur Rani Fort. The name "Raipur Rani" itself honors the legacy of its founders and the influential ruling queens (Ranis) who managed the estate's affairs during crucial periods of transition. Following India's independence and the subsequent abolition of the zamindari system, the estate was integrated into the Indian Union, leaving behind a rich architectural and cultural heritage that remains central to the identity of the Panchkula district. For more details on its geographical and administrative history, see Raipur Rani on Wikipedia.
