History

Kumar Shri Dadaji, the founder of the Kotharia State, a Fifth Class Princely State in Kathiawad Province (now Saurashtra), and second son of Thakore Saheb Mehramanji II of Rajkot, was granted a patrimony of six villages in about 1733. The Taluka consists of six villages - Kotharia, Vavdi, Vagudad, Khorana, Nagalpur and Pipalia. Jurisdictional rights were: (a) Criminal :- Two years, rigorous imprisonment and fines up to Rs. 2000, (b) Civil :- To the extent of Rs 5000. The rule of primogeniture governs succession. The Talukdar maintains a military force of 4 cavalry and 38 infantry (as of 1892).
